You have seen the worlds, or you are about to; the register treats the two of you exactly the same. Either way — here is the rack. Spin it. Everything on it exists because somebody thought a world was worth a sticker, which is the sincerest compliment a world has ever been paid.
Fair warning, cheerfully given: this is the kitsch counter. The library keeps its own hours through the back door, the tales arrive on their own Mondays, and the meaningful things are not on these shelves at all — those are entrusted, never sold, and you will have to travel for them. What IS on these shelves is cheerfully printed, slightly sun-faded, and unashamed of being one of fifty. Paper rides the post for $2.50 to any door in the States — $4.50 to anywhere else on any map we recognize, and several we don’t.
A promise with its boots on.
Nine travelers keep wallets here, and the shop keeps its voice down around them. No starbursts, no sale tags — nine is a census, and a census does not take lodgers. If one of them is yours, you’ll know it when you see it.
